Florida Gators quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Tebow, will appear in a controversial Pro-Life commercial during next Sunday’s super bowl.
The National Organization for Women, Feminist Majority Foundation and Women’s Media Center joined forces to try to pressure CBS and the NFL to cancel the anti-abortion advertisement. They state that it is offensive to air a politically charged ad during the super bowl.
A letter from the women’s group states,
“By offering one of the most coveted advertising spots of the year to an anti-equality, anti-choice, homophobic organization, CBS is aligning itself with a political stance that will alteration its reputation, alienate viewers, and discourage consumers from supporting its shows and advertisers,”
Jehmu Greene, president of the New York-based Women’s Media Center says,
“An ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year – an event designed to bring Americans together,”
Focus on the Family is the organization who prefabricated the ad which features the theme “Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life.” They are an evangelical organization that provides biblical advice on marriage, parenting and other life areas in its products and services.
A 30 second Superbowl advertisement slot is selling for around 2.5 million dollars. Focus on the Family claims that the funding will not come from them, but instead was donated by a few “very generous friends.”
Tim’s mom Pam Tebow will reportedly appear in the ad with him. The ad is expected to focus on Pam Tebow’s testimony that she was urged by a physician to have an abortion after she had a life-threatening illness during a mission in the Philippines. If she had gone through with the abortion her son Tim Tebow, who went on to become the celebrated Florida Gators quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, would not be here.
Tim Tebow says,
“I know some people won’t concur with it, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe.”
David Garrard, quarterback for the metropolis Jaguars, states that he appreciates Tebow for standing by his convictions.
Garrard says,
“I applaud him for standing up for what he believes. More people, more athletes should do the same.”
David Garrard who is known for being a chesty Christian and for his involvement in the metropolis community where Tebow is from, stated he would welcome the young man as a member of the Jaguars.
“I know he would be a good talent doing anything on the team and I know the fans in metropolis would just love him, I wouldn’t have any problems with him being on the team.”
Don’t be surprised that the metropolis Jaguars are supportive of Tim Tebow’s Pro-Life commercial because rumor has it that they plan to draft him as their #1 draft pick.
