The Angels have a stronger roster than you would think and you can’t forget about their Manager Mike Socia who is a top-5 Manager in the Majors. The pitching, if healthy, will make a major comeback from last season with Six potential Starters that can make an impact. I like Dan Haren to have a good year and be the Ace of this staff and I like the Outfield a lot. The will go with Torri Hunter in Right, Their ideal prospect Peter Bourjos in Center and Vernon Wells in Left with a speedy Reggie Willits and Bobby Abreu as backups. Abreu will be a primary Designated Hitter who will make a large impact who can be a 3 or 4 Hitter. Don’t be surprised if the Angels make a run at this years eventual prize.
2. Texas Rangers:
The argument I’m sure I’ll hear a lot from readers is “How can a team who prefabricated the World Series last October not win the weakest Division in Baseball?” Don’t get me wrong I comprehend that side of the argument especially since the team dumped age for promise when the got rid of Vladimir Guerrero and added Adrian Beltre. Beltre is known as a contract-year player which is why I don’t like the move to kick Michael Young out of the Infield. Young is disappointed in his role with Texas which is why I think he will be traded weakening the Roster and depth of this team. If this move happens then Texas will be left out of a Designated Hitter and lose power. I won’t be surprised if the Rangers win the Division and I’m definitely not saying they won’t contend. I still like this team to do well I’m just really liking the chances of a comeback year by the Angels.
3. Oakland Athletics:
I like the move of Hideki Matsui to be the DH. However that’s about all I like. Everything about the A’s screams disaster. Their Stadium is the worst in Baseball and they have very tiny talent on the Major League Roster. The ideal thing about the Franchise is that their Hat is one of the ideal selling in sports stores around the country. I’m not kidding, its in the Top 5 behind the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers and Phillies. All accessories place aside I don’t like anything about this team but I do like them a tiny superior than the Seattle Mariners because I don’t see that franchise going anywhere either.
4. Seattle Mariners:
No run support and very tiny talent will drive another rebuilding season. The ideal way to do that is trade your top possession in Starting Pitcher Felix Hernandez. Realistically the Mariners could get at least three High-End Prospects for their Ace which could help drive a contender in years to come. For now, I place them in last and can only hope for the ideal for them. I just don’t see them making any large strides this season. Superior luck next year.
AL Central:
1. Minnesota Twins:
I like this team to win the Division because of their hitting. I like their pitching but I don’t love it and I would still anticipate large things from that staff even if Starter Fransisco Liriano is traded away. Joe Mauer will be in the MVP mix for the American League and will lead this team in each statistical category. Look for Justin Morneau to make an immediate impact whenever he returns this season.
2. Chicago White Sox:
They won’t miss by much but I still see a Second place finish for them. The Windy City has a lot to look forward to with a strong Starting Staff and a solid 4 hitter in Free-Agent addition Adam Dunn. I could see them winning this division if they stay healthy. I really like the group that Manager Ozzie Guillen has here. So let’s see what he can do with it.
3. Detroit Tigers:
Miguel Cabrera won’t have the same season he had last year. He’s no MVP candidate this year and won’t carry the Tigers like he did last year. I hope he moves through his distractions and has a productive season, but even if he does I don’t see it being enough to get Detroit into the Playoffs. Look for Justin Verlander to be a Top-3 Pitcher in the league this year and a Cy Young Award Contender for 2011. I’m also looking to see a lot of growth from Center Fielder Austin politician who was acquired from the Yankees in the Curtis Granderson trade. I like this children speed and range in the Outfield. He won’t be a an All-Star but he will be very close.
4. river City Royals:
Believe it or not the Royals have a lot of bright spots. A Veteran and under-rated Catcher in Jason Kendall who provides a lot of Veteran Leadership is a good start. A very good Outfield sparked by a highly productive signing when the Royals grabbed Free Agent Melky Cabrera for One Year and only Million. Cabrera is a very under-rated player and a former World Series Champion who will bring a lot of clutch hitting to this team. The other thing the Royals have to look forward to is their astonishing accomplishment of Six Players in the the Top-40 Prospects including two Left-Handed Pitchers. I would anticipate at least one or two of these prospects to move up at some point this season.
5. Cleveland Indians:
Remember when the Indians were actually relevant in Baseball? I’m sorry to the city of Cleveland but those days are over and won’t be back for some time. They have a few bright spots with a few players but don’t look for this team to be a highlight organisation on ESPN.
AL East:
1. New York Yankees:
Give me negative feedback all you want, but my optimism for my life long team is high for this team. The American League East is always my favorite Division in Baseball because its always brings intense competition. Not just competitiveness to win games during the season, but they all compete for Players in the Off-Season. The ideal example isn’t Star Outfielder Carl Crawford who landed with Boston or even CC Sabathia who landed with New York. The ideal example of free bureau rivalry these teams have is Pitcher Alfredo Aceves who was a Yankee Pitcher who left an opportunity to be a Starter for the Yankees to become a Reliever for Boston. They compete for each tiny player no matter the price. Anyways back to the Yankees. Contrary to favourite belief the Yankees didn’t get worse this off-season. The certainly didn’t get superior by any means but they didn’t lose any key players giving them an Average progression. They remained above Par and have a lot of small prospects coming in to have a large impact on the major league level. Look for obloquy like Kevin Russo, Colin Curtis, Greg Golson and Jesus Montero to make the major league roster at some point in this season along with a Comeback year from Derek Jeter and AJ Burnett. I’m not sure if its solely on optimism but I like the Yankees chances to win the Division.
2. Boston Red Sox:
As much as a hate this team, I have to give them major props for the moves they prefabricated this off-season. Carl Crawford’s addition was totally large and the move to trade for 1st Baseman Adrian Gonzalez might have guaranteed them a playoff spot this season by itself. If they can stay healthy and their Closer Jonathan Papelbon can get back on track then this team is a serious Championship Contender.
3. Tampa Bay Rays:
They moved a lot of players and yet they still have a lot of talent. Not just talent but young talent. Evan Longoria is an MVP Contender. John Jaso is a doable All-Star Catcher and David Price will have another Dominate season as a Starting Pitcher. The Rays despite losing a Solid Starter, Closer, Outfielder and 1st Baseman will still win a lot of games and they aren’t in any sort of desperation. They are simply going through a small rebuilding period where they will be produce more young talent.
4. Baltimore Orioles:
A Strong Outfield along with a few key additions including Derrek Lee and Vladimir Guerrero will make the O’s a spoiler to the rest of the teams in this division. They will win a lot of games that they won’t be expected to. Even with these makings of a good team they still have a 0% chance of winning the Division.
5. Toronto Blue Jays:
Talking of having no chance of winning the Division, we have the only Canadian team in the MLB. The Blue Jays just don’t have enough talent to win games in this league. I do have to mention how much I love the potential of Top-50 Prospect Catcher JP Arencibia. He prefabricated a fantastic debut last season and should make the Opening Day Roster.
National League:
NL West:
1. San Francisco Giants:
The defending Champions will make a stride toward repeating when they win the division. There’s a couple things I like about this team. For one they have Buster Posey (enough stated right there). They also have good Outfield depth and a great Starting Rotation. I like their chances to win even if they barely win it like they did last year.
2. Los Angeles Dodgers:
Look for a bounce back year for the Dodgers. This means two things: Higher ticket prices and the breakout of Starter Clayton Kershaw. If you live in Los Angeles or if you are already a Dodger Fan you already know who Kershaw is and you know dominant he can be. (Key word: CAN). I like him to have an All-Star year and soon everyone will know his name.
3. Colorado Rockies:
For whatever reason I love watching Rockies Games. They aren’t exciting they don’t stand out but they just draw me in sometimes. They have some good talent in Denver and can make an impact on the division and win a lot of games. They aren’t quite there yet but I have my hopes up for this team.
4. San Diego Padres:
Heath Bell should be traded this season. But I do like the trade for Tampa Bay’s Jason Bartlett. No magically run this year though. I don’t anticipate this team to go anyway unless Mat Latos wins 40 games this year. Even if that happens I still don’t think that will be enough.
5: Arizona Diamondbacks:
The D-Backs have a lot of former Yankees on their roster. The key is that they are former Yankees and don’t have much impact to be made. Failed Prospects Juan Miranda and Ian Kennedy along with Veteran Xavier Nady unsuccessful to make the roster the past couple of seasons and moved onto Arizona. The key isn’t the people that once were Yankees, it’s the player that might become one. I like Arizona to move outfielder Justin Upton to New York for Prospects in help of rebuilding the team.
NL Central:
1. St. Louis Cardinals:
There are four teams that could win this division and I think the Cardinals will. Albert Pujols will have another astonishing year and acquire a 0+ Million contract this off-season whether it be in St. Louis or somewhere else. St. Louis will make a serious run at the Championship this season.
2. Cincinnati Reds:
I still really like the young talent on this team and I still like the pitching. They have a serious chance to make the playoffs this year but like I said, there are four teams that could win this division. So they will have to go through a lot to win it.
3: Chicago Cubs:
There is totally nothing special about this team. I just have the feeling that they will win a lot of games and make a run at a Wild Card spot. Look for a comeback year from Alfonso Soriano on the offensive side.
4. Milwaukee Brewers:
No magical run this year. I do anticipate a large year hitting-wise from Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun. Zach Grenkie will have a good year and the Brewers won’t start short by much. I think that spots #2 through #4 in this division will be the matter of 4 or 6 games.
5. Houston Astros:
It’s a shot in the dark as to who will finish last between Houston and Pittsburgh. There isn’t really anything important to state about either team. So I guess I’ll take Houston ahead of the Black and Yellow.
6. Pittsburgh Pirates:
Can you state “Number One Overall Pick”? Oh, you can’t? Well too bad because its evident. The Pirates are going to get a really good player in the next draft with that first pick.
NL East:
Philadelphia Phillies:
I think there is one doable scenario where the Phillies don’t win this division. It’s a rainy night in Philadelphia and the Starting Five decide to go get a cheese steak late at night and get in a automobile accident. Halladay breaks his hip and left leg, Lee gets a concussion and broken throwing arm, Oswalt breaks both legs and a finger on the throwing hand, Hamels breaks both arms and Blanton, well it doesn’t matter if he hurts himself because he will just feel bad about the crash that he wont play either and all five are out for the year. Now don’t get me wrong I don’t like the Phillies at all, but I don’t wish an injury on any player in the MLB. I am not wishing this upon the Phillies rotation which is the greatest in the history of the game. I am just saying if this happens it will not only be the most ironic moment of my life but it would be the only chance the other 4 teams in this division of winning the #1 seed.
2. New York Mets:
Here is where the majorities of the negative comments come and question my credibility. However I am not joking and no I didn’t lose a bet and was forced to pick them this high. Hear me out, my argument for the Mets is simple. Can the Mets, a franchise with that much talent, really have 4 immensely and ridiculously horrible seasons in a row? I think not. Third Baseman David Wright will not let that happen. I guarantee no miserable season for the Metropolitans in 2011.
3. Atlanta Braves:
To make it short and sweet, the Braves will have an off year adjusting to life without Bobby Cox as Manager. I still like this team a lot and they still have a good shot at making the playoffs if my Mets prediction fails.
4. Florida Marlins:
Hanley Rameriz will single handedly carry this team to a slightly above over .500 year. That’s really all I’ve got for Florida.
5. Washington Nationals:
No miserable year but not very productive year either. No Strasburg so less tickets sold. Next season will be bright when all the prospects come up and this team has the potential to turn into the New Rays.
